| This
document is meant to assist users of the Outlook Express email in
configuring Outlook Express to check email on two different servers.
When a user has two different email
accounts (you@domain1.net and you@domain2.com) checking
email on both mail servers with the same program
will make the transition from one email address
to another easier.
In this fashion, you will have time to give out your new @domain2.com
email address to those you want to have your email address, while being
able to leave all of that junk email behind on the old mail server.
|
|
|
Connect
to the internet (Get online). Open your Outlook Express email program.
Once it is opened, click on TOOLS, slide down and click on ACCOUNTS. |
|
|
A new, smaller window
will appear. In this window you will see you current email settings.
Don’t worry, it may have a different name than the one shown, but
there should be something already here. On the right hand side, click
on the ADD button, then slide over and click on MAIL. The will start
the New Email Account Wizard. |
|
|
Type your Name here,
this is how you want people to see the from part of email that comes
from you.
John Doe as compared to john doe. Click the NEXT button. |
|
|
Type in your new YOU@domain2.com
email address. Click the NEXT button. |
|
|
Your mail server type
is POP3, the name of both your incoming (POP3) and outgoing (SMTP) servers
are mail.domain2.com. Type these in each of the fields and click the
NEXT button. |
|
|
Your email account
name is your email address. So type in your @domain2.com email address
in the Account Name field. Type your password in the password field.
If you do not want to be prompted for your email password every time
you check email, click the REMEMBER PASSWORD box. Then click on the NEXT
button. |
<
|
Congratulations! You
have configured your Outlook Express email program with another email
account. |
|
|
You will be returned
to email accounts windows, were we started. You will notice that there
are now two email accounts listed. The original account has the word
DEFAULT next to it in parentheses. This means that the old email account
will be used for sending and receiving email before the newly created
account would be. We want to make the new account the default account.
That is, we want to use the new account more than we want to use the
old account. Click once on the new account, then on the right side, click
on the SET AS DEFAULT button. |
|
|
You will notice that
the “(default)” has moved beside the new account. Excellent! |
|
|
Click on the CLOSE
button to complete this portion.
On the Outlook Express Toolbar, you will see an ICON that says SEND AND
RECEIVE
Click the SEND AND RECEIVE button. |
|
|
Outlook Express will
now check for email on both email servers, the old WL-P.net email server
and your new domain2.com email server. |
|
|
Now you can start
sending emails to all the people you want to have your new email address.
Send an email telling everyone what your new domain2.com email address
is!
To send an email to lots of people in your address book, follow these instructions.
In Outlook Express (while still connected to the internet) click on the
Create Mail button. |
|
|
A new email window
will appear. |
|
|
of the address book, next to the word TO: |
|
|
This will open up
your address book. The names in your address book will be different than
those in this one. For each person you will to send an email to, click
once one there name (I have click on Ima Emailer in the picture). |
|
|
After clicking on
a person’s name, click the BCC button. |
|
|
That person will then
be shown in the BCC field. We want to use BCC (Blind Carbon Copy) because
we don’t want everyone to see everyone else’s email address
(John Doe may not appreciate that Ima Emailer now has his email address).
By using the BCC field, each person gets the email, but to them it looks
like the email was sent only to them. This is also a great way to do form
letters, which is what the spammers do and we all have our own opinions
of email spammers.
From the list of names on the left side, find the next person you would
like to send this email to. Click once on their name; then again click
on the BCC button. Repeat this process for each person you want to send
this email to. |
<
|
When finished selecting
the people you want to send the email to, click the OK button. |
|
|
Notice that each person
you selected is listed in the BCC field, if you missed someone, simply
click on the Address Book next to TO: or BCC: and add more to your list. |
|
|
Next type in a subject
in the Subject field. |
|
|
Internet etiquette
(Netiquette) likes Subjects in emails.
Then in the body of the email window, type in your message. Be sure to
include your new @domain2.com email address! |
Finally,
click the SEND button in the upper left-hand corner of the window.
That is it! You have now informed all of the people you had selected of
your new domain2.com email address.
Happy Surfing!
